'Behind the Paper' feature in Functional Ecologists

With the recent publication of our paper in Functional Ecology, I was approached to write a post for the journal's companion blog, Functional Ecologists!
This presents an overview of the paper, a little bit about how we did the work, and most of all how I grew as a scientist. The research paper itself took many years. As a result, the blog post provided space for a reflection on those years and the ways I've grown as a scientist. I return time and time again to how grateful I am for the mentors I've had along the way.
